Bamboo names are confusing and taxonomist regularly change names of species. There is some disagreement over the taxonomy but here is what most experts agree on.

KINGDOM: Plantae
PHYLUM (DIVISION): Magnoliophyta
CLASS: Liliopsida
SUBCLASS: Commelinidae
ORDER: Cyperales
FAMILY: Gramineae (Poaceae)
SUBFAMILY: Bambusoideae
TRIBE: Bambuseae
SUBTRIBE: bambusinae

As you can see, bamboo is in the family Gramineae - that is the grass family. Yes, bamboo is a grass.
