Bamboo at Quail Botanical Gardens

This beautful botanical garden is in La Jolla, not far from San Diego. We visited there in 2003. This is one of the largest collections of bamboo in the United States.

A very dense clump This clump was so dense it was difficult to insert your hand into the grove.

One of the really big clumpersThese culms were huge, some approaching 8 inches in diameter. The sheaths were very impressive, you can see one on the left of the picture.

 

P.vivaxThis was the only runner we saw, P.vivax.
