Phyllostachys viridis - Pigskin Bamboo

Called "Pigskin" because of the dimpled texture of the canes. This bamboo is another of the giants, with beautiful light green canes. Makes a great grove that you can wander through. With white rings at each node, it has a distinct look.

P.viridis - Pigskin bamboo
Close-up of pigskin bamboo culm

This grove of P.viridis is about 10 years old. It has been "groomed" to remove small and dead culms, leaving just these 2" and 3" canes.

It's called "Pigskin" because the surface of the cane has a pebble like texture, similar to a football. Easier to feel than see.
