Bamboo Nursery

Phyllostachys rubromarginata - Red Margin Bamboo

This stately bamboo is ideal for a traditional grove, a tall screen, or as a source of high quality timber for crafts and projects. With long internodes, it gets very tall and is cold hardy to well belew zero once it is established. Like many other Phyllostachys, it is a fast grower and spreader. Large grove of P.rubromarginata
Red Margin Bamboo

P.rubromarginata on a flood plane next to a creek. The culms are all over 2" in dia. and 50+ feet tall. I had to park in a public housing area, hike about 500 yards down a creek, and wade across toget to this bamboo. I've seen it for years and suspected it was Red Margin but just had to be sure!

This grove of Red Margin Bamboo is located on a south facing hill. The soil is poor and water runs right off. The canes never get over an inch in diameter and maybe 25 feet tall. You can see this grove on the west side of I-65 as you head south towards Birmingham, about 3 miles before the city limits.
