Bamboo Nursery

Phyllostachys nigra 'Megurochiku'

There are a number of different "black" bamboo species. This one looks much like Giant Gray Henon with big, gray canes. However, some of the canes have a black stripe. As my grove has matured I find more canes with the stripe but most don't show any sign of it. This is another one of the "giant" bamboos.

one of the larger canes
This is my grove of P.n. Megurochiku. It covers an area about 35 feet by 15 feet along the edge of my pond. Many canes are in the 3 inch range. Only a few have the black stripe. This cane is almost 3 inches in diameter. Notice how it has the gray look of P.n. Henon.

This stipe is just barely visible on one of the larger canes. This is a small cane, about 1 inch in diameter but with a nice, dark stripe.
