Bamboo Nursery

Phyllostachys makinoi

Another giant bamboo, this one has beautiful, bluish green culms. It is supposed to get up to 3 inches in diameter and 60 feet tall. My grove has never exceeded about 2 inches by 35 feet. I've recently planted a new grove in on a better site than this one. I would love to see some 3 inch canes on this very straight and erect bamboo. Seems to have very high quality timber.

P.makinoi
Makinoi bamboo

This young grove of P.makinoi is next to my pond. It has several canes about 1.5" in diameter. This grove should be producing full size canes in the next few years.

This is a closer look at the same grove. Notice the beautiful bluish-green of the new canes with the white bands at the nodes.
