The plants we have left are really something! They've gone thru their 3rd spring of shooting and the 3 gallon containers are full of culms and rhizomes coming out the drainage holes. We've still got a few dozen containers left. These bamboo plants are a great way to start your own Moso grove.

Moso (P.h.pubescens) is the largest of all the cold hardy bamboos. The culms can get to 7+ inches in diameter reaching 80 feet into the air. With tiny leaves and down covered canes (they feel like velvet!) this is a beautiful and awe inspiring bamboo.

MOSO SEEDLINGS - Unique Clones from JMBAMBOO
These Moso seedlings have shown exceptional vigor and promise to give you a great start on your own Moso grove. The plants on the left are 20 months old. This was their second spring and all have 3 to 4 new culms, about 1/4 to 3/8 inch in diameter and 4 to 5 feet tall. The container is a 3 gallon size and the plants have a well developed root sytem. The grove below was started from from a seedling 5 years ago. As you can see, this Moso grove is well on it's way to producing multiple, large culms. When these seedlings are gone I don't know when or how long before I have more. Take a look at the latest pictures

Moso seedling
This Moso seeling is 4 years old and has 27 new culms, all about 1/2 inch in diameter and 5 to 8 feet tall. The season before (3 years old) there were 10 small culms.

Young Moso Bamboo grove
This is the same seedling after 5 growing seasons. There are a couple dozen new culms, several 1" in diameter and 12 to 15 feet tall. It has spread out to cover an area about 20' by 20'.

Bamboo seedlings
These are 24 month old seedlings with 2 seasons of growth. With care and feeding each can look like the grove above on the right in 3 more years. I expect to see large culms- maybe 3 inches- withing 2 more years.

Why plant seedlings?

As you can see above these seedlings grow like crazy! The two here on the left are examples of what you will receive. The first season they produced 1 to 3 tiny canes, about 12" tall. The following season there was an average of 4 canes and the root system has filled the pots, lots of rhizome growth. Each is a unique clone, genetically distinct. We've weeded out the smaller, less vigorous plants and are only selling the top 100 seedlings (out of 600 original plants). Although chances are low, your clone could be something unique, perhaps a variegted form, or a clone with superior cold resistance. Who knows? One thing you can be sure of is a Moso grove in just a few years with a little tender love and care.
