These are traditionally
used in Japanese Gardens. They are called Deer Scarers. The middle tube fills
with water and tips
forward when full. The tube then drops back, striking a rock and making a
loud sound.

A very large Moso bamboo pole used to impress visitors!

This notebook
computer has most of the plastic in the case replaced with bamboo. It uses
about half a pound
less plastic compared to a conventional notebook and is easier to dispose
of.
