These 35 field specimen size Golden Bamboo plants (P.aurea) are destined for a homeowner in Georgia who wanted an immediate screen. We custom dug these, choosing tall plants with limbs close to the ground. With huge rootballs and an average heigth of 14 feet (after pruning!) the landscaper told us these were the best looking and largest bamboo plants he had purchased! |
These 124 field specimen sized plants are to be used as a screen at a coal fired steam plant. The local electrical utility company wants to block the view as well as the wind blown dust from a growing mountain of ash. The waste is surrounded by a long dike that forms a settling pond that circles the area. The bamboo will be planted along the road that runs on top of the dike. Most of the plants are Yellow Groove with a dozen each of Robert Young and Black. |

![]() ![]() I'm loading Arrow bamboo (P.japonica) in the trailer above. This is a 14 foot trailer. These average 12 to 14 feet in heigth with big rootballs. There are 12 of these Arrow and we loaded 6 Golden and 3 Black on the same trailer. With everything wrapped in plastic they arrived looking as good as when they left the nursery. These big, field dug, specimen size plants are ideal for creating a tall screen in a short amount of time. The customer had already dug the holes so we just unloaded the bamboo next to each hole. |
Commercial and large residential applications of bamboo by Jmbamboo Bamboo Nursery Alabama Power Company - Gorgas Steam Plant - 124 field specimen size plants. The bamboo screen was installed to block the view as well as the wind blown dust from a growing mountain of ash. The waste is surrounded by a long dike that forms a settling pond that circles the area. The bamboo was planted along the road that runs on top of the dike. 100 of the plants were Yellow Groove with a dozen each of Robert Young and Black Bamboo. Alabama Power Company - Miller Steam Plant - 60 field specimen size plants. After the success of the bamboo screen at Gorgas Steam Plant the utility installed a similar screen at Miller Steam Plant. The planting site was along a dyke made up of the ash and had a PH of about 14. I advised that few plants, including bamboo could grow under those conditions. The utility dug a trench approx. 24" wide by 300 feet in length and filled with top soil. The bamboo was planted in this soil filled trench spaced every 5 feet. One year after the bamboo was planted the majority of the plants are thriving. Birmingham
Landscape Architect - This jop was a residential site where
the home owner wanted an instant grove of large bamboo. We delivered
15 very large Moso bamboo specimen plants. Most were 3 inches in diameter
and 30 to 35 feet tall. Once planted the bamboo grove was quite impressive.
Lakeside Home - Smith Lake near Birmingham, Al. The homeowner had a fairly privat setting except for one side. We helped install 25 Arrow bamboo that averaged 12 to 15 feet spaced along a 50 foot strip. This should fill in within just a few years. There was a good deal of shade but enough sun for the bamboo to thrive. |
