The bamboo really needs to be surrounded but since that's impossible you will need to run the barrier the full lenght of the property line. Eventually the bamboo will find it's way around the barrier if the neighbor does nothing. From what you say this bamboo is going to be a real problem for you. You might want to let the neighbor know that you are not happy with the invasive bamboo. I'm no lawyer but I do know that there have been lawsuits over issues like this. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to control this bamboo. Good luck,

Hi,
I have a neighbor who planted running bamboo, species unknown, about 10 feet from my house. This spring, the runners spread 20 feet into my yard. I want to install a rhizome barrier along the fence-line between our houses because he is not willing to install containment that fully surrounds his clump. His clump is 8' across right now. How long should my barrier be to prevent runners crossing into my yard?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Ruth
